Council tax Band D: nation and English region reference table
Band D council tax for England, Wales and Scotland for 2025-26 and 2026-27, with nine English regions for 2026-27. A reference table for cost-of-living and housing work. Compiled 22 October 2026 from three public releases.

Joining it to other data
The table joins at two levels: nation (E92000001, W92000004, S92000003) and English region (E12000001 to E12000009). The Welsh and Scottish files carry no region level and no area codes, and none of the three files carries the nation or region codes; we added them (ONS GSS codes). Authority-level figures are not in this table.
Read before using
- Band D is a benchmark, not a household bill. Discounts, exemptions, reductions and the mix of bands are not in it.
- England: one row includes parish precepts and one leaves them out; both include the adult social care precept.
- Wales: the overall average includes county, community council and police elements. Wales has nine bands (A to I); this table holds Band D only. The element rows are for 2026-27 only.
- Scotland: excludes water and sewerage charges. Scotland has no parish precepts.
- The three nations' averages are not like for like. Do not rank the nations on these rows without reading the flags column in the CSV.
- Annual financial-year figures. Northern Ireland has domestic rates, not council tax, and is not covered.
- Later releases or revisions may change a figure. England replaced its Table 10 after the 25 March 2026 release.
How the regional figures are made
The nine English region rows are not published figures. For each of the 296 billing authorities we take the 2026-27 area Band D from Table 9 of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government release (all precepts: authority, parish, county, police, fire and combined authority) and the council tax base from Table 10. The regional value is the sum of area Band D times tax base, divided by the sum of tax base, over the authorities in the region. Region membership is the Region column of Table 10. The tax-base-weighted mean of all 296 areas is 2,391.52, against the published England figure of 2,391.52; our London figure, 2,068.47, equals the published London area figure for 2026-27.
