For journalists and writers: the UK Online Shelf-Price Index, how to cite it, and who to contact.

The UK Online Shelf-Price Index in brief

The UK Online Shelf-Price Index follows about 71,000 online prices a week at Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Aldi, matching the same products from one week to the next. It is point-in-time data, published once a week and never revised, and it measures posted shelf prices, not prices paid, so it is not CPI. The series started with a base of 100 at ISO week 2026-W39; week 2026-W41 was skipped after an incomplete collection, so the index restarts with a new base at week 42 (see the notice).
