The whole series in one file, every vintage: CSV or JSON (dataset id FvrQZaMOARuesHgPp, readable by anyone with the dataset id). Prices behind the index are in Australian dollars (AUD). Licensed CC BY 4.0. The data is in long format: one row per vintage, record type, retailer and class.
Row fields
| Field | Type | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
vintage | text | The ISO week the row describes, e.g. 2026-W42. One vintage per week, never revised. |
publishedAt | text | When the vintage was published (UTC timestamp). |
revision | number | 1 for every row so far. A correction would be a new, clearly marked revision. |
recordType | text | What the row aggregates; see the record types below. |
retailer | text | Retailer id, or empty for an all-retailer row. |
class | text | Class id, or empty for a row over all classes. |
level | number | Index level; the base week is 100. |
weekOnWeekPct | number or empty | Change on the previous week, in percent. |
fourWeekPct | number or empty | This week's level against the level four weeks earlier, in percent. Empty wherever that earlier level is missing. |
matched | number or empty | Products matched in both weeks and used. Empty in the base week. |
matchedShare | number or empty | Matched products as a share of last week's products (0 to 1). Empty in the base week. |
status | text | ok; carried (fewer than 20 used products, so last week's level is kept); insufficient (no used products, level kept); base (the base week). |
What is published
For the headline, each retailer (like-for-like and all matched products), each class, and each retailer within a class: the level, the change on the previous week, and the change over four weeks (this week's level against the level four weeks earlier). The four-week change is empty until 2026-W45, and empty wherever the earlier level is missing. No year-on-year figure is published. Each row also gives the number of matched products and their share of last week's products.
A combined "food and soft drinks" figure, covering the ten food and soft-drink classes together, is published alongside the classes as a subtotal (record types subtotal and retailer_subtotal). It is not one of the 16 classes.
The 2026-W41 rows are the base: every level is 100 (status base) and they carry no matched count, because the base week has no earlier week to match against. Matched counts and shares start at 2026-W42.
Each row has these fields: vintage, publishedAt, revision, recordType, retailer, class, level, weekOnWeekPct, fourWeekPct, matched, matchedShare and status (ok, insufficient, carried or base). The record types are:
headline: the like-for-like headline.retailer_like_for_like: one retailer over the headline's classes.retailer: one retailer over all its matched products.classandretailer_class: a class across retailers, and a retailer within a class.subtotalandretailer_subtotal: food and soft drinks.
Each vintage also has one meta item with the title, base week, weighting, retailers, classes, matched total, coverage warnings, number of retailers in the headline, method page URL, licence, and these fields for the AU index: currency, headlineDefinition, headlineClasses, colesStatus (partial), colesProducts, colesRangeSharePct, colesRequests, woolworthsStore and classRulesVersion. The meta of the base vintage has headlineClasses and the Coles figures empty.
Only aggregates are published: no product names, ids, URLs or prices.
